Today I went to Adaza for the harness which was awarded to the speckeled corn. It of course afford a measure of satisfaction to have exhibited the best sample of this our leading product. Tho as the events of all such contests do brings out the meanest side of some competitors and serves to make one feel ashamed of his species.

I received a letter from aunt Anna today.

Drew $5 from the bank.

This morning was quite cool, but fine for winter weather.

The roads are grand. I rode my wheel down to a funeral this A.M. that of a Mrs. A.J. Gray. The Friends Church was crowded.

A very windy day growing considerably colder with a NW wind.

I spent the A.M chopping and most of the afternoon grinding corn.

One new year more and one more year begun on the new century. It is well that we ask ourselves what this year has for us in the way of opportunities, rather those to do good and leave for the coming years to remember with pleasure than mere passing pleasure which depends for its charm upon the waste of that which has been given for perhaps better purposes. For the coming year I mean to (pledge) all that I may call my own not to be used for myself only but as duty orders. Today performed a most disagreeable task dehorning cattle.

Leander William Bolton’s Journal

Posted in Uncategorized | 5 Comments

Merry Christmas

My Grandfather, Leander William Bolton was 84 years old when my Dad was born. He kept a journal of events in his life in 1902.

This is more than just a blog or a website. This is his life, his journey, in his own words.

A man that my father hardly knew, but admires greatly.

This is a journal for my dad. A journal for me. A journal for my children.

That we may share the journey of one of the greatest men we didn’t know.

Merry Christmas, Dad.
